Bishop John (Worcester) said:

“We regularly read news stories of the increasing pressure which the NHS is under. St Luke’s Day provides us with a welcome opportunity to pray for all staff and patients as well as those who have the responsibility for managing resources. The NHS was intended by its founders to be a sort of institutional answer to the question ‘Who is my neighbour?’, the answer being everyone. As such, it is a profoundly Christian institution and I would encourage everyone to set aside some time on or around 18 October to pray for all involved in our health service.”
